CAMERON: My name is Cameron Kirk, I am 16 years old and I was born with Nevus all the way down my back and onto my legs. My parents sent me the YouTube link to Lucie's story and encouraged me to share my story.
As a family, we have gone to the Nevus conferences every two years since I can remember, which gave me the opportunity to meet people that are the same as me. I've been fortunate enough to never have been bullied when I was younger given that most of my birthmarks are covered, but that didn't stop me from contemplating removing it entirely. Thanks to the friendships I made with people at the conferences, I'm glad to say I did not remove any of it. It's who I am and always will be.
I'm currently a junior in high school, and looking to go into the the rotary aviation industry for college and beyond. I currently race mountain bikes, which is something I was told not to do by doctors who thought my nevus's lack of sweat glands would make it hard to participate in lots of physical activity. I'm glad I race, even if I don't sweat on my back, because it's apart of me. Just the way I like it.
I love spreading knowledge about Nevus, because I'm positive that there are countless people out there that need the reassurance that other people know what it's like to have Nevus would benefit and enjoy our unique opportunity to be apart of such a great community of people.
